Neil Diamond's extraordinary film debut ensured his status a pop rock icon and super star. Diamond is Yussel Rabinowitz, a very gifted musician, singer and song writer, who is aspiring to break out of his religion and into rock music. His father, played perfectly by Sir Laurence Olivier is from the old school and is most inflexible. Yussel decides to change his name to Jess Robin and record music his rock outside the Jewish synagogue. Diamond is terrific in this film and his songs are astoundingly good too.
Yussel's journey to a new life of music and fame is now launched. His manager, played by wonderfully Lucie Arnaz, convinces him to chase his dreams, no matter his past and family ties. Diamond meets significant challenges, both personally and of faith. If Jess wants to be the next Jazz Singer, he must make some very difficult choices. A fantastic film that is loaded with great Neil Diamond songs. The music from this film sold millions of soundtrack copies and it is no secret why. This is a must own title for Neil Diamond and 80s music fans.
